The Cubs Seamanship Competition was created to provide an event for Sea Scouting Cubs to promote nautical skills while fostering a love and respect for our waters.
The syllabus is focused on four core topics each with two checkpoints.

Unlike most of the other Sea Scouting events, the Gerry Hickey Cup is intended to not have a ‘Home’ and be hosted annually by other Cub Packs to support the network and connectivity of the Cub Packs.
The event also links up with the Clean Coasts to impress on Cubs the importance of looking after your local environment.

Gerry Hickey
A lifelong Sea Scouter, Gerry lived the Scout Promise making a commitment to do ones best. That often spilled over to help his fellow scouts in no matter way he could.
An Officer Mariner spending several years at sea before returning to shore as a Provincial Support Officer with Scouting Ireland.
Gerry dedicated his life supporting the Scouting Programme and his fellow Scouters.
He had a wicked sense of humour often captured by his extraordinary love for photography.
